چکیده

The ease of collection of preparations of exfoliated cells from the female genital tract has facilitated the recent widespread interest in cytodiagnostic tests for cancer, particularly of the cervix uteri. If cervical cells are readily available for cytological preparations they are also accessible to biochemical study. Such a biochemical study of exfoliated malignant and premalignant cells holds promise not only of an alternative screening technique but also of fundamental discoveries in the field of the metabolism of the malignant cell, as was emphasized by Nixon (1959). Most of the work done on the biochemical changes in vaginal fluid in malignant conditions of the cervix has been confined to the increased activity of ,-glucuronidase. Following reports of increased 8-glucuronidase activity in malignant tissue, Odell and Burt (1950) confirmed these findings in vaginal fluid of patients with carcinoma of the cervix and suggested the possibility of a diagnostic test. At the same time Fish-

Preventive Strategies for Ovarian Cancer

According to the American Cancer Society, in 2012 ovarian cancer is expected to account for 3% (22,280) of all new cases and 6% (15,500) of all female cancer deaths in the United States. The proportion of ovarian cancer among gynaecological cancers is increasing, also because of the decrease in cervical cancer as a result of pap smear screening programmes. On the other hand, survival from ovari...

Screening hospital patients for uterine cervical cancer.

Women patients admitted to a district general hospital with non-gynaecological conditions were offered a cervical smear test. In three years 2296 women were tested. Serious uterine pathology was detected in 13 patients (5.7 per 1000) and significant cytological abnormalities (dyskaryosis of all grades) in 46 (20.0 per 1000). Of the women screened 963 (41.9%) had never had a smear test before an...

Gynaecological Screening for Cervical and Vulvar Malignancies in a Cohort of Systemic Sclerosis Patients: Our Experience and Review of the Literature

Background. Increased incidence of cancer was frequently reported in scleroderma (SSc), but no association with gynaecological malignancies was described in literature. Objectives. To investigate gynaecological neoplasms in SSc patients. Methods. In this cross-sectional analysis, we evaluated 80 SSc patients, living in the same geographical area. We considered all patients undergoing gynaecolog...

An Overview of Asparaginase Enzyme Features: An Anticancer Enzyme with High Potency

Introduction: One of the important findings in the pharmaceutical and medical industry is the use of the asparaginazase enzyme as an anticancer drug. The asparaginase enzyme, hydrolyzing the amino acid of asparagine, reduces this amino acid in the blood and causes the death of cancer cells. Today, the enzyme is used to treat various types of leukemia, particularly acute lymphoblastic leukemia, ...

“A peculiar time in my life”: making sense of illness and recovery with gynaecological cancer

PURPOSE Worldwide there are nearly 1.1 million new cases of gynaecological cancer annually. In England, uterine, ovarian and cervical cancers comprize the third most common type of new cancer in women. Research with gynaecological cancer patients within 6 months of diagnosis is rare, as is data collection that is roughly contemporaneous with treatment. Our aim was to explore the experiences of ...
